Are You Ready for Quitting Forever?

What you do to quit forever is different than what you do after you have quit forever.  We are talking about two different activities. Making up your mind to quit forever is different than what you do after your mind is made up you will no longer drink.

If you have to make up your mind not to drink then you are unsure about never drinking again. People are unsure for two different reasons.  One category of feeling unsure about quitting forever is you are not sure that you really want to quit forever. You may want to stop for a while or cut down on your drinking, but you can’t really say to yourself you never want to drink again for the rest of your life.  The second category of feeling unsure is that you are not sure you can keep yourself from drinking if you want to. You know you will feel like drinking again sometime and you are not sure you have the physical ability to keep yourself from drinking.  If you are unsure you want to quit forever and you doubt you have the ability to keep yourself from drinking when you feel like it, then you can’t quit forever at this time. However, you can make up your mind and discover why you do have the ability to keep yourself from drinking when you feel like it.

What is different about quitting forever once you carry it out? Will the feelings to drink go away because you promised yourself you will never drink? Do you have to keep away from seeing or being around alcohol and people who are drinking for the rest of your life?  You can come to terms with your thoughts and feelings to drink again without distracting yourself or running from them.  Having a better idea of what thoughts and feelings are instead of what they tell you to do, is part of developing a willingness to live with what alcohol has done to your mind.  Remember, alcohol changes your values both when you are under the influence and when you have sobered up.  You can recapture your values and your mind. Once you have made up your mind to never drink alcohol again, and are sober and completed detoxification, you are living with your values about alcohol and what your mind is telling you.  What you do after quitting forever is different than what you did to make up your mind. If your mind is made up, it is time to stop choosing where or not you will drink. Why do you need to keep choosing if your mind is made up?  Quitting forever is about learning how to stop choosing and be with your thoughts and feelings to drink again.

Risks exist for any option: drinking or stopping

Qutting Forever is one option. You can always continue to drink or use drugs. Alcohol and drugs are there for the purchase and sometimes just for the asking. If you try to control your use to reduce harm, there is a risk you might use more often or use more then you intended and you will be loaded again. If you go one-day at a time, you will not be sure of what you may do tomorrow and there is a risk of drinking or using again. Quitting Forever is not words in your head but something you do. Your experience will tell you when you have completed quitting forever. There is a risk you will not be drinking when other people are drinking. There is a risk you will tell yourself you will never drink again and you will drink again and feel bad about it. If you quit and quit again until you get it, Quitting Forever can leave you sure you are not drinking alcohol or using drugs again.
